Sociology professor, author, and social theorist Vivek Chibber is joining KK&F this week for an engaging and wide-ranging conversation. In his latest book, Confronting Capitalism: How the World Works and How to Change It, Chibber dives into how capitalism works, the dysfunction and inequality it inevitability creates, and how we might create a more just system. Chibber’s latest work is right on time. We are watching in real time what a disaster neoliberalism has been for human flourishing. War, famine, homelessness, and the threat of planetary annhiliation all loom large in the present moment. At the same time, there are some astonishing green shoots in American politics. Workers are joining in solidarity and demanding more. Just this week we learned that workers at a Philly Home Depot are the latest to join the union organizing wave. The labor movement has energy and momentum we’ve never seen in our lifetimes.
As always, if you can’t wait for this week’s episode and you’re looking for up-to-date coverage of the latest in the news, we’ve got you. On Breaking Points, Krystal and her co-host Saagar discuss the “victory lap” the Biden admin has taken on the so-called resolution of the railroad strike — and its distance from the reality that railroad workers are facing. Then the major question: could we be about to witness the ousting of Nancy Pelosi? On Secular Talk, Kyle gets into a CNN report suggesting that the current Speaker of the House will lose her place if the Democrats lose their majority. What would that mean for the future of the Democratic Party?
We’ll see you Saturday for the new episode (paying customers get to watch one day early via Substack). Everyone else can find Episode 91 on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pandora, and more.

I just hope we can all come to the same conclusion, that this decrepit, hell scape of a society of ours that is capitalism, CANNOT and WILL NOT be saved. MLK was so spot on when he said that "capitalism has outlived its purpose", and yet he continues to be white washed to this day. We need to be discussing enacting a prolonged formidable strike across the entire country to overthrow capitalism. Capitalism is the reason why we have all the dire problems we are experiencing as a society today, from chronic homelessness to lack of healthcare. So, Kyle I hope you after this conversation, reexamine your own ideology of social democracy, and realize that even with a heavily regulated system of capitalism, those same capitalistic forces will try to undo the progress because of the incentive to generate profit. Capitalism is that much of a malignant virus/tumor. Even Mike Figueredo of the Humanist Report said it himself, so I hope you come to your senses to Kyle.
