Big news from the labor movement: after mobilizing across the country for a strike that would have been the largest in decades among private-sector employees, the Teamsters negotiating committee announced a tentative agreement today that Sean O’Brien, Teamsters president, is calling “the best contract in the history of UPS.” The massive gains include a minimum wage of $21 an hour for new part-time employees; the end of forced overtime; 24-hour notice for management presence on drives; and much more, including the termination of a two-tier wage system. The agreement now enters a ratification process roughly three weeks long; 340,000 Teamsters will decide if it satisfies their demands.
In this week’s episode of KK&F, along with our usual analysis of the latest news, we’re happy to bring you a debate with Sitch and Adam, centrist Youtubers. We want to discuss the recent hot-button topic of anti-wokeness, and specifically whether the anti-woke movement has adopted the same authoritarian tactics that it identifies in so-called woke culture. It should be an engaging and challenging conversation, and we’re looking forward to getting into it later this week. You’ll be able to watch the conversation when it’s released Friday night for paying subscribers; everyone can tune in when it’s released Saturday as a podcast episode through Spotify, Pandora, Apple Podcasts, and more. See you soon!
