Welcome to a new week with Krystal Kyle & Friends, where we’re looking forward to a conversation with Dylan Ratigan about the corrupt linkages between the U.S. government and the corporate world. Video of our conversation will be released Friday for paid subscribers, and if you have yet to become a paid subscriber, you can do so by clicking the button below. Otherwise, we’ll be releasing audio on Saturday, as always.
Before we say more about our Friday conversation with Dylan, we want to note: Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has made the news recently.
Last week, he revealed intentions to oppose the confirmation of Neera Tanden as the head of OMB, citing the “toxic and detrimental impact” that her leadership would have on the relationship between OMB and Congress. (For more on why we shouldn’t be rooting for Tanden as a progressive online girlboss in this story, click here.) He’s also expressed uncertainty about the appointment of Rep. Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior — interesting, given that Haaland supports the Green New Deal and Manchin had, as of 2019, the greatest fossil-fuel investment of any Senator.
And, of course, Manchin has voiced the concern that a $15 hourly minimum wage is too generous, preferring a cut to $11 an hour. Never mind the fact that $15 an hour is too low for American workers to make ends meet: Manchin is using his power in a tightly-divided Senate to set the terms of political negotiation. Obviously, opposing Tanden’s confirmation doesn’t make him a friend to the left, as his support for an unlivable minimum wage shows. He’s here to protect fossil-fuel investments and please corporate donors, and the Democratic Party’s unconditional embrace of its farthest right element shows that he’ll keep doing so with no obstacles in sight.
That’s why we’re bringing Dylan Ratigan to the show this week. Dylan, who has hosted The Dylan Ratigan Show on MSNBC and contributed to The Young Turks, has long been a vocal critic of the alliance between the U.S. government and the corporate world. He’s provided essential insights into the 2008 housing crash and financial crisis, and at a time when corporations are profiting at record speeds from a lethal pandemic, we’re thrilled to have him on Krystal Kyle & Friends for a perspective on how big business is robbing the working class. He was also the first person who ever put Krystal on TV! Paid subscribers can join us Friday for the video release, and everyone will be able to listen to the conversation on Saturday, when it will be released through Substack and major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pandora, and more.
As a conservative republican, I subscribed to this podcast to hear about opposing views. However, I am disappointed with liberal thinkers who come on this podcast. The minimum wage is already close to 15 dollars in major cities like New York, LA , San Fransisco and Seattle. It will be 15 dollars soon in other big cities as well. However, this has not improved outcomes of poor people in big cities. Liberals have abandoned what makes families successful. A married family with two parents is always better as it insulates the economic pain from job loss of one member. It will make sure children have two parents who care and could work out schedules to take care of home and family. Faith, Family and community are age old cornerstones of success. Liberals have ignored this, no amount of welfare can substitute stable family's role in children's success.
I don't know when you record these interviews, so maybe it's too late, but if not: please ask Dylan about his work on sustainable architecture with the Helical Farms Outpost project!
