Railroad strikes have been (if you will) locomotives for the politicization and organization of working-class people throughout American history. Renowned American socialist Eugene Debs started as a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen, where he was involved with the railroad strike of 1877 and became a leader in the famous strike against Pullman in 1894.
Now, over a century later, a new generation of railroad workers is preparing to strike for essential rights. They’re fighting penalties for going to the doctor as they do the critical work that helps hold up the American supply chain.
This week, we’re talking to Ryan Grim about how the labor movement can upend neoliberalism. Ryan works for the Intercept, where he’s D.C. bureau chief and is the co-host of Counterpoints, a brand new show on the Breaking Points Channel!
