This week’s guest is Matt Duss, foreign policy advisor for Bernie Sanders. As the situation in Ukraine escalates, with more bombing of civilian areas on day five, we’re looking forward to talking to Matt about who exactly this war will benefit, and who will be hurt the most.

Recent coverage suggests that working-class Russians aren’t on the side of this violence. Mothers are worried about their children; plenty of people are concerned about access to online communication channels banking methods. And, of course, the invasion puts Ukrainian civilians at immediate risk, as their cities are being shelled. This is Putin’s war, make no mistake, but the past few days have also put American hawkishness on full display.
As members of the mainstream commentariat put out calls for a no-fly zone, we’ll be talking to this week’s guest about what else is possible, how the situation can be de-escalated for the safety of everyday people, and the role that the U.S. should play in this conflict, keeping that goal in mind. We’re looking forward to an engaging conversation with Matt, and we hope you’ll join us. Paid subscribers get access to the conversation through Substack on Friday night, and everyone can listen on Saturday when it’s released through Spotify, Pandora, Apple Podcasts, and more.
I am a senior and my son turned me on to you guys. I am on the same page with you. However I suggest that when you are are hammering Biden being old and senile it comes across as making fun of seniors. One day you guys will be there. It is not fun. I get what you are saying that he is too old but as i recall the Democrat machine pushed him int this. Also, he is pres for the next 3 years. I really do not think he will run again. I feel is doing more than I thought he would. The real problem is the party. They refuse to run a progressive. From what I see the Democrats and the Republicans have no one to really run in the next election. At any rate I as suggestion, you might rethink how you critizise Biden as it comes across that yoiu guys do not respect seniors. You do have some of us that follow you. I am disappointed in my generation after Viet Nam we protested the war plus all the great protest rock and roll music. etc. Now my generation is mostly right and I really do not understand that. Any way keep up the good work. My son and watch you guys on you tube.
I am the same age as the President. I felt sad to hear you criticize him for having the signs of age. I work each day as a volunteer for The Young Turks TYT Army in a leadership position. My brain, so far at least, is just fine but the interface is a bit rusty. When I get tired my words slur a bit, my ability to immediately remember facts causes me to pause sometimes. I do not drink nor to I take the typical drugs old people are prescribed because I am in good health. I felt just like you when I was young and said many of the same things. Now I see I was biased against the aged.
Biden is the President we have. Don't focus on his age so much. Sure it is a factor, but other issues are far more important. I love your interviews and depend on your analysis to inform much of my volunteer work. Thank you for this opportunity to express my thoughts.
