You obviously have no idea of the history of Chile and the evolution of its constitution and it’s economy. “Pinochet’s constitution “, as you call it, has been modified well over 200 times since it was drafted, most dramatically when the Socialist Party president, Ricardo Lagos, was in office. I’m an American that has lived in Santiago for 21 years, and to paint a bright picture of the results of this past weekend’s elections is simply ignorant and misleading. A Communist Party member as mayor of the capital city is the biggest indicator that the decades long success story that is Chile is over, and the best that can be hoped for is that it only becomes just another mediocre emerging country that will never reach the status of ‘developed’. However, there now exists a strong possibility that we’ll be referring to it as “Chilezuela”.
