Breaking news this week has felt like a flurry of updates about Elon Musk’s latest efforts to kneecap what meager social supports the U.S. provides at home and abroad. With DOGE (barf), Elon’s taking control of the Treasury, lawlessly destroying entire agencies and as NYT reporting points out, his power to do so is basically unprecedented. It’s hard to have more conflicts of interest than the Tesla, SpaceX, and X owner does, and as an unelected part of Trump’s team, he has totally unchecked power to wreak havoc. We’re probably only seeing the beginning of the damage Elon is planning to do. Where, if anywhere, will it end?

Terrifying as these questions are, they’re also deeply necessary to think about as the left gears up to organize against the second Trump administration and fight Elon’s predation of our government.
