Listen now | The Fed remains a mystifying, secretive institution that defies classification. It combines elements of a public, governmental entity with elements of the private banking system. It’s run by a government-appointed team and owned by banks (through non-transferable stock). Confused? We can’t blame you. This week’s guest, Christopher Leonard, is the author of
I would highly recommend the 1890s populist writer, Sarah Emery - Seven Financial Conspiracies, to get a clear sense of the impact of the backroom machinations of our bankers on our national politics. Sometimes it's easier to absorb from across a distance of time. Little has changed.

Thank you for this episode! I have been listening to your show from the beginning. I just want to pass on a little book, Alvan S. Brown - The Financial Conspiracy of 1907, to Christopher Leonard. The crash of 1906 was arranged by J.P. Morgan precisely to induce a political pretext for the creation of the federal reserve. Thanks again!
Would you consider having Robert Hockett and/or Fadhel Kaboub on the show at some point to provide a deeper context on this subject area? Not to throw shade on Christopher Leonard, but they can provide some answers for the the 'what to do about it' questions, and each have thoroughly studied visions of the structural reforms that are needed to address the problems highlighted by Leonard. Their perspectives overlap in several areas, so a double booking would be interesting, but each are worth their own show in my view.
